ALIANSI, aku kamu kita mereka

On Saturday, October 14 2017, will open an exhibition entitled ALIANSI : aku/kamu/kita/mereka.  The exhibition is part of a visual arts lab (Project Tumbuh Rupa) that encourages artists from different disciplines to collaborate and engage in creative investigations–involving members of the general public to become an important resource to the artists’ inquiry.

The boundary that differentiate I, you, we, them -are just in our minds. The boundary is invisible yet has substantial effects. These boundaries can influence or determine the way we behave and act, whether against ourselves or that around us. Often, we do not have the power to regulate or cause it. There are those beyond ourselves that do it without our knowledge or consent.  We only obey and follow it.

However, it does not mean we are unable to do anything about it. We are very much able to change, remove or barter these boundaries. Its essentials are our own importance or needs, either for ourselves or the above that exist around us.  Also our way of seeing and appreciating ourselves as part of something bigger than our own.

This time RSR (Ruang Seni Rupa) [PSBK’s visual arts platform] will discuss about such boundaries.  As part of the Advanced Learning for Artists Residency that has been running for approximately 7 months, the participants have already had to negotiate and shift those boundaries as part of the group dynamics: amongst them, them with PSBK, them with community members they meet during their residency program. Caglar Kimyoncu, an artist from the UK who is undergoing his residency at PSBK, was also involved in this process.  Hence the boundary on the one hand, is perhaps easier to arouse, considering how the components of the group has become progressively diverse. Yet on the other hand, this becomes a wonderful opportunity to expand thoughts and increase references regarding diversity.
