Workshop on Creativity and Body Awareness

Baik Mas Dion, berikut terjemahan ke Bahasa Inggris yang baik dan benar:

As part of the Road to Gugus Bagong series, PSBK presents a Workshop on Body Awareness and Creativity (Development of Bagong Kussudiardja’s Creativity Class Method), scheduled as follows:

Date: Thursday and Friday, November 14–15, 2024
Time: 08:30 AM – 2:00 PM (WIB)
Location: Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja

About the Workshop

This workshop is an effort to further develop the body awareness and creativity class methods once taught by Bagong Kussudiardja to his cantrik (students). The materials presented blend Bagong’s experience studying modern dance in the United States with the intuitive movement practices found in Javanese dance.

Through this workshop, the knowledge of body awareness—which served as a foundation for Bagong Kussudiardja in cultivating the physical discipline of PSBK’s cantrik mentrik—is revisited, documented, and examined in today’s context.

The implementation and documentation of this workshop are guided by two key questions:

  • Is the practice of body training still relevant to today’s creative processes?
  • What can be developed from this method as a learning value or an arts education curriculum?

With these simple questions, PSBK aims to explore and share artistic knowledge across generations.

Workshop Activities

In collaboration with the Bagong Kussudiardja Dance Training Center, the workshop will take place over two days.

On the first day, participants will be invited to experience firsthand the creativity class methods taught by Bagong Kussudiardja to his cantrik mentrik. These include returning to “zero”, elemental dance techniques, object exploration, introduction to levels and orientations, and improvisation.

On the second day, participants will continue with materials from the first day, including traditional dance movements, movement imitation, further improvisation, and group exercises.

At the end of the workshop, participants—organized in groups—are expected to present a simple dance piece based on their learning from the two-day session and share their experiences with the facilitators.

This workshop is free and open to the public!
